 Carl J Baumgaertner Award Recipient

The Baumgaertner Award recognizes an Engineering student who has demonstrated capability in electronics and electronics engineering and is named after Professor Emeritus Carl Baumgaertner.

Tau Beta Pi Member

Tau Beta Pi is the national Engineering Collegiate Honors Society. Members must posses distinguished scholarship and exemplary character, placing in the top eigth of their engineering class.

The Tau Beta Pi Chapter at Harvey Mudd is rather unique for a couple reasons. One, our chapter has nearly 100% participation, in part because it is such a small school. Two, members help out with more community service than many other chapters.

As part of the community service requirement for Tau Beta Pi members, the chapter works with the Engineering Deptartment to provide tutoring for all core engineering courses. As Tau Beta Pi Vice President, I was responsible for organizing the tutoring, other administrational tasks, as well as tutoring courses myself. I tutored Control Systems, Materials Engineering, Digital Electronics, and Analog Electronics. I especially enjoyed tutoring because it really forces you to have a thorough understanding of the material.
